Prepare engineering drawings, Bills of Quantities, technical specifications and tender documents; conduct irrigation and civil-infrastructure surveys; assess canals, pumps, drainage systems and water-control structures; supervise construction; implement quality assurance; advise on irrigation scheduling and crop-water requirements; and support Water User Associations.

Short Description

FAO is recruiting an Irrigation Engineer to support the design, rehabilitation, expansion and sustainable management of the Aweil Rice Irrigation Scheme in South Sudan

Opportunity overview

The Irrigation Engineer will provide technical planning, design, construction-supervision and quality-assurance support for irrigation and water-control infrastructure serving the Aweil Rice Irrigation Scheme. The work includes rehabilitation of canals, drainage systems, embankments, pumping facilities and on-farm water-management structures. The engineer will also connect irrigation development with rice and crop-production objectives, water-use efficiency, climate-smart agriculture, farmer training and sustainable operation and maintenance.

Requirements and eligibility

Advanced university degree in irrigation engineering, water-resources engineering, agricultural engineering or a closely related field; at least seven years of relevant experience in irrigation and civil-infrastructure projects; working knowledge of English; experience with field surveys, hydraulic assessments, BoQs, engineering drawings, contracts and technical bid evaluation. AutoCAD or ARCHICAD experience is desirable, while Arabic is an advantage.
