Gladys Synergies is recruiting a Project Engineer, Dams, for an agricultural company in Lubumbashi. The engineer will oversee the planning, setting out, construction and supervision of irrigation dams and water-storage reservoirs, including excavation, embankment construction, soil compaction, slopes, spillways, drainage channels, culverts and outlet structures.

Gladys Synergies is recruiting a Project Engineer, Dams, on behalf of a vertically integrated agricultural and meat-production company operating in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The successful engineer will oversee the design coordination, planning and construction of irrigation dams and water-storage reservoirs.

The position focuses on the execution of multiple earth-dam and reservoir projects required to support agricultural and livestock operations.

The engineer will supervise excavation, embankment filling, soil compaction and slope-formation works and will coordinate the construction of spillways, drainage channels, culverts and reservoir outlet structures.

The role also requires accurate site measurements, daily construction records, progress reports and as-built documentation.

The engineer will coordinate contractors, machine operators, supervisors, surveyors, technicians and site workers to ensure that all works are completed according to approved engineering, safety and environmental standards.

Main duties and responsibilities

• Lead the planning, setting out and construction supervision of irrigation dams and water-storage reservoirs.

• Supervise excavation and foundation-preparation works.

• Supervise earth embankment placement and construction.

• Monitor soil classification, moisture conditioning, layer thickness and compaction procedures.

• Supervise slope formation, trimming and protection works.

• Coordinate the construction of dam spillways.

• Coordinate drainage-channel construction.

• Supervise culvert and reservoir outlet-structure works.

• Collect and record site measurements and construction information.

• Maintain daily site records, quantities and progress reports.

• Prepare information required for project documentation and as-built records.

• Coordinate contractors, construction supervisors and heavy-equipment operators.

• Supervise surveyors, technicians and site workers involved in dam construction.

• Verify that the works comply with engineering drawings and technical requirements.

• Monitor construction quality and identify corrective actions.

• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental requirements.

• Resolve practical engineering and construction problems arising on site.

• Coordinate several dam or reservoir projects where required.

• Report construction progress, technical risks and resource requirements to project management.

Requirements and eligibility
