Professional Summary
Fanose Belete Gemechu is an Ethiopian hydrogeologist and geologist whose research combines rigorous field investigation, groundwater hydrochemistry and geographic information systems (GIS) to address practical drinking-water and irrigation challenges. She earned an MSc in Hydrogeology from Arba Minch University (CGPA 3.83/4.00; thesis assessed as Very Good) and a BSc in Geology from Wolaita Sodo University (CGPA 3.46/4.00). Her MSc investigation assessed groundwater suitability in Limuna Bilbilo Woreda, East Arsi, drawing on samples from more than 20 field locations across over 18 kebeles, physicochemical laboratory analysis, Water Quality Index methods and GIS-based spatial interpretation. Her undergraduate research mapped the structural geology of metamorphic terrain near Konso, Southern Ethiopia, and received an A- grade. Her field training spans sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic terrains, integrating lithology, geological structures and groundwater occurrence. Fanose seeks to contribute to groundwater research, sustainable water-resource management and university-level geological education through evidence-based analysis and field-oriented learning.
Key Expertise
Major Projects and Contributions
-
MSc Research - Integrated Groundwater Quality for Drinking and Irrigation, Limuna Bilbilo
Conducted a postgraduate investigation in Limuna Bilbilo Woreda, East Arsi Zone, Oromia, assessing groundwater suitability for drinking and irrigation through groundwater sampling, laboratory physicochemical testing, hydrochemical analysis, Water Quality Index (WQI) methods and GIS spatial interpretation. -
Groundwater Sampling, Hydrochemical Analysis and GIS Mapping - East Arsi
Collected primary groundwater data from more than 20 field locations across over 18 kebeles, working with the Oromia Water and Energy Bureau on water-quality laboratory analysis. Evaluated groundwater composition, hydrochemical facies and spatial water-quality patterns for domestic and agricultural use. -
BSc Research - Structural Geology of Metamorphic Terrain around Konso
Completed an undergraduate research project titled Geological Structure of Metamorphic Terrain around Konso Area, Southern Ethiopia, involving detailed field mapping, lithological characterization and structural interpretation. The project earned an A- grade. -
Geological Field Investigations - Sedimentary, Igneous and Metamorphic Terrains
Undertook university field and laboratory training across the Abay Basin (sedimentary geology), Adama (igneous geology) and Konso (metamorphic and structural geology), including geological mapping, rock and mineral identification, stratigraphic correlation, petrology and interpretation of geological structures.
